WTU has
selected Rev. Jan Michael Joncas as the 2012 Sophia Award honoree for national excellence in theological scholarship.
Fr. Joncas will receive the Sophia Award on February 12, 2012, 5:00PM, and will also present a lecture entitled Heaven's Harmonies in Human Habitats: Composing for the Church. His talk will demonstrate how music may manifest Sophia --wisdom -- in compositions intended for the Church's worship, both by illuminating the texts being sung and by facilitating the rituals being enacted.
Free. All are invited to attend.
Registration for the Spring 2012 semester begins on November 1 (Tues). Semester schedule, updated October 26, is posted here. Students completing their degree or certificate programs should give close attention not only to the Spring 2012 schedule, but also the final two semester schedules. This is important because courses needed may not be offered in our last two semesters. Students are urged to discuss their schedule plans with their advisor. For further assistance, contact the Registrar anytime.

Designed specifically to aid those in using Science in their pastoral ministry, renowned Catholic theologians will explain how the Big Bang (and other theories) can cohere with their understanding of divine creation of the universe.

WTU has announced that it does not have the financial resources to be able to
continue offering its academic services to the Church and the community. In recent years, WTU, like many other seminaries and religious schools, has been navigating multiple financial challenges with the recent economic downturn, decline in the number of religious vocations and a national decrease in private funding for religious initiatives. All master and certificate level classes of the WTU will cease at the end of the Spring Semester, May 2012. Only the doctoral program will continue until December 2013.
WTU and the Paulists celebrated
Paulist Charism on January 18, 2012. The celebration began with an interfaith prayer service, including a ecumenical sermon by
Dr. Larry Goleman, Executive Director,
Washington Theological Consortium. This event also featured a film presentation, “Issac Hecker: The Journey of an American Seeker,” followed by a panel discussion on the Paulist charisms: Evangelization, Ecumenism, and Reconciliation.
WTU held its 2011 Advent Lessons and Carols service on Dec. .4. The music was led by Richard Andre, CSP, and alum Julianne E. Wallace, MTS. The homily was given by Rev. Kevin O'Neil, CSsR. CLICK HERE to view.
