WW500  WORD AND WORSHIP (3) [Fall]
Considers symbol and ritual as foundational for current liturgical theology and practice.  Reviews liturgical history and studies the current normative documents that yield pastoral principles for renewed praxis.

WW506  PREACHING I: INTRODUCTION TO THE HOMILY (3) [Spring]
Introduces students to preaching from the framework of narrative theology, basic communication theory, and the liturgical homily in the Roman Catholic tradition.  The centrality of preaching to the pastoral ministry is stressed and reinforced by frequent individual performance with accompanying self, peer, and teacher critique.  Includes extensive use of videotaping for added depth to the evaluation and critique of the student. 
Pre-requisite
:  SS517, SS520 and SS613.  Limit:  six (6) students. 

WW605  PREACHING II: THE HOMILY ON THE FEASTS AND WITHIN THE RITES (3) [Fall]
Concentrates on particular contexts of preaching: major feasts, sanctoral celebrations, and sacramental rites. Requirements include: preaching, assigned readings, and a written project. Makes use of the video recorder for the purpose of evaluation along with self, peer, and teacher critique.  Pre-requisite:  WW506; Limit:  six (6) students.

WW654  BAPTISM AND CONFIRMATION (3) [Fall]
Focuses on the Church’s teaching and practice of Baptism and Confirmation based on anthropological structures, scriptural foundations and traditional practice.  Historical and theological issues give rise to pastoral concerns discussed within the context of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Pre-requisite: SY651 or WW500. [SY applicable]

WW612  MINISTRY OF PRESIDING FOR ORDAINED MINISTERS (3) [Spring]
Studies how presiding at liturgy is a skill acquired through active participation and more specific knowledge of the Church’s liturgical tradition, theological reflection on current practice and critical analysis of exercises in presidential leadership.  Assists ordained presiders to develop competence in leading assemblies in sacramental celebrations and occasional rites.  Pre-requisite:  WW655 and formally sponsored as a candidate for priestly ordination.  Limit:  eight (8) students.

WW655  EUCHARIST (3) [Spring]
Surveys the historical development of the practice and theology of the Lord’s Supper from the New Testament through the Council of Trent and Vatican II, providing a synthesis of the current Catholic theology of the celebration of the Eucharist in relation to the Reformation churches.  Pre-requisite: SS520. [SY applicable]

WW657  SACRAMENTS OF HEALING: THEOLOGY AND PRACTICUM (3) [Fall]
Investigates the historical development of the liturgy and theology of the sacraments of Penance and Anointing of the Sick as well as the revised rites of these sacraments with special emphasis on the Church as a healing community of reconciliation.  Gives special attention to the integration of contemporary moral theology with developmental psychology in the pastoral task of conscience formation.  Uses case studies to illustrate issues of penance and pastoral care of the sick.  Pre-requisite:  SY651 and MO541. [SY applicable]
