Students who wish to receive loans (i.e. Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized and/or PLUS) during the coming academic year for which the loan period begins July 1, 2010 should complete these initial and important steps as soon as possible:
1) complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid);
2) complete a new electronic MPN (Master Promissory Note); this must be done even if you have a current MPN. A separate "eMPN" is required, if an applicant desires both types of Direct loans.
3) complete the entrance counseling form.
The above three steps can be accomplished using this US government website. The website also contains other information about the Direct Loan service. This federal program will provide a lower rate of loan interest and a more direct process for disbursing funds.
In addition to the above actions, students must also complete these two WTU forms for submission to the WTU Financial Aid Office:
1) an annual loan application form and
2) an annual loan cost of attendance worksheet. View this page for baseline cost data used to determine and certify loan eligibility and loan amount based on cost of attendance.
These two forms, when received will initiate the WTU loan certification and disbursement process. Student borrowers will be formally notified of disbursement that usually will occur approximately ten (10) days before the semester begins.
Further details on the WTU process will be posted progressively on this webpage, as needed. Contact Deacon Merella (202.541.5264 or merella@wtu.edu) for assistance.
