Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time, January 29th

Mark 1:21-28: "...If the Spirit has not raised up any unfreedom in your memory for you to present to Jesus for healing, then consider the meaning and the value of power and authority in your own life.  Whom do you follow?  Why?  When and how do you use power and authority? ...."  To read more, please CLICK HERE.

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, February 5th

Mark 1:29-39: "...it is only prayerful attention to the Lord and sincere love of others that will heal the beautiful world that God has entrusted to us and bring the peace and harmony that Jesus came to offer us. Feature Story: 16th Sophia Award and Lecture

You are invited to join Washington Theological Union for the 16th Sophia Award and Lecture!

Rev. Jan Michael Joncas, the 2012 Sophia Award honoree for national excellence in theological scholarship, will receive the Sophia Award on February 12, 2012, 5:00PM at Washington Theological Union, and will also present a lecture entitled Heaven's Harmonies in Human Habitats: Composing for the Church.

When theologians discuss church music, they almost always focus on texts being sung, but rarely explore how music itself may make a theological contribution. Joncas' talk will demonstrate how music may manifest Sophia --wisdom -- in compositions intended for the Church's worship, both by illuminating the texts being sung and by facilitating the rituals being enacted.

The Sophia Award and Lecture is free and open to the public.
